The Eco-municipality Model
The Eco-municipality Model
Our roots are in Övertorneå (1983) , Sweden's first eco-municipality. It is here that we demonstrated that sustainability can regenerate the economy and the community thanks to a systemic vision that still guides us today.

The 4 Sustainability Principles: Our Strategic Compass
The 4 Sustainability Principles: Our Strategic Compass
To navigate the "funnel" of declining natural resources and rising global consumption, we use a scientific framework developed by Karl-Henrik Robèrt, founder of The Natural Step. These conditions serve as the "shared language" needed to align departments, policies, companies and individuals toward a common goal.

1. Reduce Dependence on Fossil Fuels and Scarcity
1. Reduce Dependence on Fossil Fuels and Scarcity
In a sustainable society, nature is not subject to systematically increasing concentrations of substances extracted from the Earth’s crust. This means moving away from a wasteful dependence on fossil fuels and scarce minerals.

2. Eliminate Accumulation of Synthetic Chemicals
2. Eliminate Accumulation of Synthetic Chemicals
Nature should not be subject to systematically increasing concentrations of substances produced by society. We must design systems that prevent the buildup of toxic chemicals and persistent synthetic materials in the environment.

3. Protect Nature and Biodiversity
3. Protect Nature and Biodiversity
Nature is not subject to systematically increasing degradation by physical means. Sustainability requires us to protect the health of our ecosystems, ensuring we do not over-harvest forests, deplete oceans, or pave over fertile land.

In a sustainable society, people are not subject to conditions that systematically undermine their capacity to meet their own needs. Social sustainability is the essential pillar that ensures everyone can live a dignified and productive life.
